Stellar X Pro vs. Nova Z5: An Extreme Camera Test

This year has seen the release of some truly remarkable smartphones, each boasting impressive camera technology. But marketing hype aside, how do these devices truly perform under pressure? To find out, I subjected two of the leading contenders – the Stellar X Pro and the Nova Z5 – to a series of extreme camera tests. The results were surprisingly varied, revealing strengths and weaknesses I hadn’t anticipated.

The Contenders: Stellar X Pro vs. Nova Z5

The Stellar X Pro and the Nova Z5 represent the pinnacle of mobile photography in 2024. Both phones boast cutting-edge sensor technology, advanced image processing algorithms, and a suite of impressive features. However, their approaches to photography differ significantly. The Stellar X Pro prioritizes high-resolution images with exceptional detail, while the Nova Z5 focuses on dynamic range and low-light performance. This fundamental difference shaped my testing strategy.

Testing Methodology: A Multifaceted Approach

To ensure a comprehensive evaluation, I designed a rigorous testing regime encompassing diverse scenarios. This included low-light photography in dimly lit interiors and at night, capturing fast-moving subjects, shooting macro images, and testing image stabilization in challenging conditions. Both phones employed sophisticated image stabilization techniques, but their effectiveness varied. The Nova Z5’s optical image stabilization (OIS) system proved superior to the Stellar X Pro’s electronic image stabilization (EIS), particularly when shooting video.

The Stellar X Pro’s EIS produced noticeably shaky footage when compared to the smoother, more stable video from the Nova Z5. This difference is particularly significant for users who frequently shoot videos on their phones.

Video Recording Capabilities: A Head-to-Head Comparison

Beyond still images, I also compared the video recording capabilities of both smartphones. Both phones can record 4K video at 60 frames per second, but the image quality and stabilization differed significantly. The Nova Z5 consistently produced smoother, more stable videos, even when shooting while walking or moving.

The Stellar X Pro, while capable of recording 4K video, showed more noticeable shake and instability in comparison. The difference was subtle in ideal conditions, but became much more pronounced in less-than-ideal circumstances.

Software and User Experience: Beyond the Hardware
